Description
This storage chest originates from France and dates to the late 18th century, reflecting a vernacular furniture tradition shaped by function, durability, and regional practice. Its construction is direct and robust, employing traditional joinery and fitted with original wrought-iron hardware. The proportions are balanced and utilitarian, conceived for both everyday domestic storage and visible placement within the interior, while the surface has acquired a deep, layered patina through sustained use.
The interior features a raised compartment, characteristic of historical French storage chests intended for textiles or personal belongings. The chest aligns with rural French furniture of the period, produced outside formal cabinetmaking workshops and guided by local customs. Signs of wear, surface irregularities, and traces of historical use are consistent with its age and contribute to its authenticity. As with all our rustic furniture, this piece has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment to ensure long-term care and preservation. -
