Description
Small Walnut Community Buffet From The 18th Century "Louis XIV community buffet in walnut, Burgundy 18th century.
A refined French walnut community buffet dating from the first half of the 18th century, executed in the Louis XIV tradition. This compact yet substantial piece reflects the restrained architectural character associated with furniture produced for religious or communal interiors, such as hospices or provincial institutions. The façade opens with two molded paneled doors, each centered with a geometric carved motif framed by double bands within a square composition, creating a balanced and sober decorative presence.
The top is formed from two solid walnut boards with a softly profiled edge, while the sides are structured with chamfered molding that reinforces the cabinet’s strong proportions. The buffet rests on front leaf feet with later stabilized rear supports, consistent with historical maintenance. The walnut displays a warm blond patina developed over centuries of use. Structurally sound and retaining its original back panels, the piece offers both authenticity and practical scale, suitable for modern interiors seeking genuine period character.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
