Itzchak Tarkay ((Israeli, 1935-2012) was a prominent artist in the modern figurative movement, renowned for his expressive depictions of women in peaceful, dreamlike settings. Influenced by Matisse and Toulouse-Lautrec, his work bridged modern figurative art and Fauvism, which is characterized by bright, non-naturalistic colors, bold contours, and flat patterns. His paintings, are known for their, expressive, joyous, and lyrical quality. A Holocaust survivor, the Yugoslavian-born Tarkay moved to Israel at a young age and studied at the Avni Institute of Art and Design. His work has appeared in over 50 exhibitions across the globe.
