Description
Like in most European countries, the desire for functionalism went hand in hand with understatement, refinement, and elegance for much of the mid-century era in Sweden. This sofa was inspired by the classic Swedish furniture design ideals that revolve around craftsmanship, simplicity, and of course, functionality.
The output of Göperts Möbler is lesser known, however the rare pieces all share the same level of quality and streamlined modernism. Many of the manufacturer’s pieces were designed by Gunnar Göpert, the man behind the firm. This sofa has the characteristic “open armrest” design that showcases the high level craftsmanship and the beautiful wood structure. While the design of the sofa’s body is uncomplicated, with a straight back and clean lines, the details and pairing of materials create visual interest and charm. One visually intriguing part is the choice of sheepskin upholstery. This pairing of materials with the design makes the smooth lines of the wood stand out against the textural, organic sheepskin while also accentuating the individuality of the upholstery.
If there is a single common denominator for Nordic Modern, it is not so much the design or form as the quality of the execution, the woodwork and the upholstery. The “Säter” sofa model excels in these areas, bringing modernism and quality to any space.
