Description
This rare large ceramic vase, designed by Berndt Friberg and produced by Gustavsberg in Sweden in 1963, is a refined example of his exceptional mastery in ceramic glazing. The vase features Friberg’s signature hare’s fur glaze, known for its delicate surface texture and subtle gradations between dark and light shades. This glaze technique creates fine vertical striations that add depth and visual complexity to the piece.
The vase’s form is elegantly elongated, with a gently curving silhouette that tapers smoothly towards a flared neck, culminating in a slightly outward-turned lip. The color palette includes deep blue tones that transition into muted browns, enhancing the vase’s organic and sophisticated appearance.
The base bears the Gustavsberg hallmark alongside Friberg’s signature, confirming the vase’s provenance and authenticity. Measuring 9 cm in diameter and 29.5 cm in height (3.5 x 11.6 inches), this vase represents a notable work within mid-20th century Swedish ceramic art, combining refined craftsmanship with a timeless aesthetic.
