Description
An exceptional and increasingly scarce set of eight dining chairs by Cimo, Brazil, circa 1950 — a study in proportion, restraint, and material authority. Executed in richly grained caviúna, each frame reveals dramatic figuring and tonal variation, elevated by a refined satin-matte finish that allows the depth of the wood to speak without gloss or distraction.
The silhouette is quietly architectural: slender, tapered legs; disciplined stretchers; and a tall, slightly pitched backrest that offers both visual presence and genuine comfort at the table. The extended back height is not merely aesthetic — it creates an enveloping support rarely found in mid-century Brazilian dining forms.
Newly upholstered in a Warm Bone / Soft Oat performance linen blend, the seats and backs present a softly woven surface with a subtle crosshatch grain. The textile carries a dry, matte hand and a natural depth that complements the warmth of the caviúna without competing with it. Durable yet sophisticated, it reads tailored and timeless under both natural and studio light.
All eight chairs retain their original Cimo manufacturer’s seal — an increasingly rare detail that anchors authenticity and provenance.
A complete, matched set of eight by Cimo, in this condition and material integrity, is seldom encountered. Ideal for collectors of Brazilian modernism or designers seeking warmth, scale, and quiet strength in a dining environment. -
