Description
Scandinavian furniture design from the first half of the 20th century often reflect a shift toward simplicity, durability, and practical construction. Designers focused on solid wood, especially oak, and prioritised function, with clean lines and well-proportioned elements that could withstand daily use. This set of dining chars was crafted as four reliable, well-made objects that could integrate easily into everyday interiors.
This set features a solid oak construction and clearly defined structure. Each piece is built from thick, durable elements, with legs that splay outward to create a stable and grounded base. The stretchers are arranged in a geometric manner that reinforces the overall frame, connecting the legs to add strength while also contributing to the visual composition. The backrests are formed by horizontal and vertical rails that wraps around to create a continuous, enveloping form. The curvature follows the body to improve comfort during use. This design offers support while maintaining a sense of openness. The oak itself plays an important role in the overall character of the set. Its visible grain and warm tone add texture and depth, while also reinforcing the sense of durability. The material gives the chairs a solid presence, while the relatively straightforward construction balances the look.
Overall, this design relies on proportion, material and structural clarity rather than ornament. As a result, the chairs are well suited to everyday dining use, while their restrained appearance allows them to work comfortably in a range of interior settings.
