Description
A Large Mid Century Italian Coffee Table with Original Onyx Marble Top,
Italy circa 1970
This fine table has a frame made of gilt brass. The table is of rectangular section with canted corners and supports an inset onyx marble, also known as veined agate, top. There are two conjoined legs at each corner of the table and this arrangement of legs is visually interesting as well as practical and strong.
Onyx marble or veined agate is a semi-precious stone formed from calcite or aragonite and apart from its obvious beauty under natural light, it is translucent meaning that it looks remarkably beautiful when lit from below-something that the arrangement of legs on the present table makes easy to achieve.
This table is attractive and versatile and is as luxurious today as it was when first made in Italy in the 1970s. A very fine decorative accent for any interior.
Width: 50 3/4 inches - 129cm
Height: 18 1/2 inches - 47cm
