Description
1933 model pendant light by Lorenzo Burchiellaro. Like all of his works, this light fixture—produced in the 1970s—perfectly embodies the transition from work of art to functional design object.
The pendant consists of a series of curved, laminated aluminum and metal elements arranged symmetrically around a central structure. These elements form a sort of three-dimensional metallic “corolla.”
Burchiellaro did not view metal as a cold or industrial material, but as a living organism. His specialty was the manipulation of surfaces: he was not content merely to give an object a shape, but transformed its “skin” through engravings, oxidations, burn marks, and layering—characteristics evident in this pendant.
