18th century Dutch Delft jar inscribed: Red Snuff

Price Upon Request
  • Description
    Delft, the Netherlands
    Workshop: unknown
    Date: circa 1780

A genuine blue and white tobacco jar for the storage of snuff tobacco with an original brass lid.
The jar is inscribed Rooijesnuif (Red Snuff) (Sniff) and is painted between two Native Americans smoking a pipe with barrels, rolls, and tobacco leaves around them. Above Rooijesnuif, we see a wonderful garland of draped curtains and shell motifs. The brand refers to the snuff tobacco infused with something that is unknown to me. One almost would think it was for the storage of pink c*ke. ;)

    Marked M:Q. Mark unknown.
