  • Description
    Origin: Delft, the Netherlands
    Workshop: De Drie Vergulde Astonne
    Owner: Pieter Gerritsz. Kam
    Date: 1705 - 1716

An impressive and large Dutch Delft vase of 23.8 inches! Pieces of early 18th century Dutch Delft in this size are rare and would have been made for the elite and royalty of the time. The decoration of fine flowers and birds is painted in cobalt blue on a tin-glazed white ground.

Pieter Kam, Son of Gerrit Kam, came from a Delftware family that owned multiple factories of many generations in the city of Delft. The monograms GK and PK on objects dating from this period are associated with the ''De Drie Vergulde Astonne'' workshop. The Kam family developed a style of their own during this period. Much of their work is completely covered with painted sprays of flowers and birds in all sorts of attitudes. As a rule, the effect of the decoration is more satisfactory on a large surface, as in this case on these two vases, than on a smaller object. This style of painting was used in Delft at the beginning of the 18th century. Executed by painters with a fine brush, and consequently, to produce vases, jars, tankards, dishes, and plates. Needless to say, very few of these pieces have survived the ages.

The vase is in a wonderful conditions, with some restoration to the top rim, which is quite normal for a vase of this age and size.
