Description
Design attributed to Paolo Buffa for Ducrot, rare and exceptionally refined pair of oval nightstands, bedside or end tables, Italy, 1950s. Expertly hand-crafted in rich mahogany, each table features an elegant oval silhouette with a fully finished front, sides, and back, allowing for versatile placement within a room. The design showcases Buffa's signature sophistication, with beautifully reeded drawer fronts, stylized brass pulls, and finely fitted brass sabots. Glass tops add both practicality and a luxurious finishing touch, while open compartments and drawers lined in maple provide ample and beautifully executed storage. Exquisite craftsmanship is evident throughout, from the graceful proportions to the meticulous detailing. These nightstands exemplify the understated glamour and superb artistry that define Italian mid-century modern design at its finest.
Manufacturer's metal plaque affixed inside each drawer.
Ducrot was a prominent Italian furniture manufacturer founded by Vittorio Ducrot (1867–1942) in 1902 and based in Palermo. It was recognized for high-quality Art Nouveau (Liberty style) and Art Deco designs in the early 20th century. While active earlier than the classic midcentury modern period, his firm produced luxury, handcrafted pieces, including iconic ocean liner interiors. -
