Description
This vernacular credenza cabinet, attributed to Northern Italy and dating to the late 17th century, is defined by its restrained construction and utilitarian character. Crafted in solid wood, the piece features an elongated form with multiple paneled doors opening to a spacious interior fitted with shelving. The surface shows a timeworn patina with visible wear, tonal variation, and traces of earlier finishes, reflecting centuries of use.
The interior retains signs of practical use, including worn shelving surfaces and remnants of old inventory markings, reinforcing its origins in a working or storage environment. Rooted in Italian vernacular traditions, the cabinet embodies a functional approach to craftsmanship where proportion and durability guided the design. Its long, low silhouette gives it a quiet architectural presence, while natural irregularities and age marks align with wabi-sabi sensibilities. As with all our rustic furniture, this piece has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term preservation. -
