Description
An exceptional 18th century Italian Rococo mirror, exquisitely hand-carved in wood and retaining its original parcel-gilt and painted surface with beautifully timeworn patina. The elaborate crest features a classical urn flanked by symmetrical scrolling acanthus and foliate motifs, culminating in a finely detailed pierced cartouche—hallmarks of the Italian Rococo aesthetic.
The richly ornamented frame is adorned with flowing asymmetrical scrollwork, layered carving, and delicate relief details throughout, all enhanced by centuries of natural wear that reveal underlying tones of gesso, bole, and original pigment. The mirror retains its original mercury glass plates, displaying an atmospheric, softly mottled surface that lends depth, authenticity, and a luminous, painterly quality highly prized by collectors.
This mirror exemplifies the elegance and craftsmanship of 18th century Italian decorative arts—both sculptural and functional—making it a striking focal point above a console, mantel, or within a curated interior. -
