Description
This chair is from Vitra's first year of production in 2002. No longer available in this most desirable combination of materials.
The Cité armchair is an early masterpiece by the French designer and engineer Jean Prouvé. Originally designed to furnish the student residence halls at the Cité Universitaire in Nancy, Prouvé also used this comfortable, expansive armchair with steel runners and leather belt armrests in the living room of his own home.
Jean Prouvé was a French industrial designer and architect who lived from 1901 to 1984. He was known for his innovative use of materials and his emphasis on functionality in his designs. Prouvé was also an advocate for the use of prefabricated structures, which he believed would allow for greater efficiency and affordability in construction. His designs ranged from furniture and household objects to large-scale buildings and even bridges. Prouvé’s work continues to inspire and influence architects and designers around the world, and he is considered to be one of the most important figures in 20th-century design.
Vitra label is present with early production year of 2002. Produced in Germany.
