Description
Dimensions: 32 ⅝” H x 70 ¼” W x 26 ¾” D
An enormous German coffer-trunk from the 16th century (possibly the oldest antique in our entire 18,000 sqft. showroom!), handcrafted from thick oak planks and fitted with forged iron hardware that is equally impressive as the woodwork. The heavy lid opens on hand-forged iron hinges to a spacious interior that shows evidence of a large candle box to the right side (since removed). The ornate escutcheon remains intact as a decorative element however no key is present. Rather simple in construction, the wide planks forming the sides of the volume are also the feet to elevate it from the floor. Standing over 32” tall, the trunk might double as a console table taking advantage of the comfortable height and convenient but concealed storage inside. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to preserve this cherished antique for future generations. We believe this item to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Please view the detailed image gallery for the current condition and message us with any questions. -
