Description
Created in 2013, this wall-mounted urethane relief reflects Peter Alexander's continued exploration of light as both material and subject. Suspended approximately two inches from the wall on a concealed central mount, the work creates the illusion of a luminous field floating just beyond the surface. At its center, a vibrant pink glow appears to radiate from within the translucent panel, yet its appearance changes dramatically depending on ambient light and the color of the wall behind it. As lighting conditions shift, the work alternates between subtle translucency and intense chromatic presence, making its surrounding environment an essential part of the viewing experience. Characteristic of Alexander's mature practice, the relief dissolves the boundary between painting and sculpture, transforming minimal form into a continually changing perceptual encounter.
