Description
"Rhapsody in Red", 2025, 72" H x 60" W. Large-scale abstract painting in hues of a warm, desaturated crimson consisting of acrylic, pencils, and oil pastels on canvas by Argentine-born artist Karina Gentinetta (featured in Architectural Digest, Frederic, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, the New York Times, Traditional Home, Veranda Magazine, Luxe Interiors, and in Introspective Magazine, among others.) "Rhapsody in Red" is a powerful, large-scale abstract work that unfolds in a vibrant crescendo of color, gesture, and underlying structure. Energetic passages of desaturated crimson, rose, soft peaches, raw sienna, and muted earth tones erupt across a neutral background, creating a field of movement that feels both spontaneous and deeply intentional. The palette radiates warmth—an expressive burst of emotion balanced by moments of quiet luminosity.
What distinguishes "Rhapsody in Red" is the intricate network beneath the surface—pencil compositions, mathematical notations, measured grids, and gestural scribbles that have become a defining hallmark of Gentinetta’s work, anchoring the painting’s visual rhythm. These underlayers introduce an architectural counterpoint to the expressive paintwork above, revealing the rigor and thoughtfulness embedded in her process. Layers of paint are built up and pulled back, exposing traces of earlier decisions and the physicality of the artist’s hand. Sweeping gestures meet delicate graphite diagrams; blurred transitions sit beside crisp moments of intensity. The result is a dynamic interplay between chaos and control, emotion and structure—a composition that rewards both immediate impact and extended contemplation. At 72" x 60", the work holds a commanding presence without overpowering the space. It is framed in a raw, unfinished Sapele wood floater frame, whose natural warmth and subtle grain echo the earthy reds and browns in the composition. The frame enhances the organic, expressive character of the painting while maintaining a clean, contemporary silhouette.
Karina Gentinetta is an Argentine-born contemporary artist whose original abstract paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally. Her work has been acquired by private collectors, interior designers, and design professionals, and selected for permanent installations in luxury commercial interiors, including RH Paris | The Gallery on the Champs-Élysées. Her paintings have been featured in leading design publications, including Architectural Digest, ELLE DECOR, House Beautiful, Frederic, Veranda, Luxe Interiors + Design, The New York Times, and 1stDibs' Introspective Magazine. Known for their expressive movement, layered surfaces, architectural scale, and sophisticated use of color, Gentinetta's one-of-a-kind paintings create a bold contemporary presence in exceptional interiors. -
