Description
Made in France in the eighteenth century, this carved wooden fire pot is among the earlier objects in the collection. Vessels of this kind, carved from wood, were practical objects associated with the hearth, and surviving examples are now valued for their early date and hand-worked character. The carving gives the piece its form and surface interest, and the wood has developed the patina and wear consistent with great age. As a decorative object, the fire pot suits display on a hearth, mantel, shelf, or table, where its carved form and aged surface stand out. Its early origin and the evidence of hand production make it a piece of interest to collectors of treen and early domestic woodware. Shown alone or grouped with other early objects, it brings a sense of age and craftsmanship to a room without occupying significant space.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
