A highly decorative 19th century (circa 1879) ormolu and ebonised wall bracket of exceptionally fine quality, attributed to Henri Dasson (1825 - 1896).
The bracket which is of scroll shape and believed to be one from a set of four, it is made from oak and veneered with ebony and has the finest quality mercury gilded bronze mounts, the ormolu being of exceptional quality.
To the top is an ormolu moulding of egg and dart design leading down to a superbly cast central face of a grotesque, Bacchic mask with oak leaves as hair with floral ormolu decoration to either side.
This leads down to a fine quality ormolu floral and ribbon design, the bracket has a wide brass stringing to the outer edge for additional decoration.
This piece is in excellent condition and can go straight into a home.
Henri Dasson produced fine quality pieces in the mid-late 19th century, a similar bracket can be found in the book: '19thc European Furniture' by Christopher Payne - Page 291, plate 939.
