Upholstered Art Deco Armchair, Europe ca 1930s

$ 8,860
  • Description
    This European armchair was created at the peak of the Art Deco movement, in the 1930s. It captures the elegance and bold presence of the style, while merging a streamlined form with a strong sense of functionality. This chair stands out by combining a classic silhouette with rich upholstery that creates a commanding presence.

    The armchair has a rectangular profile, defined by its tall, slightly inclined back and angular armrests. The hide covering the body gives the chair an elegant, tactile surface, showing the Art Deco fascination with luxurious textures. The subtle variations in tone across the fur highlight the unique beauty of natural materials. The dark-stained wooden frame provides a clear contrast around the lighter upholstery. The armrests are formed from long, straight sections of wood that extend forward from the back and drop to create the front feet. This open construction leaves the sides largely exposed, visually separating the upholstered body from the wooden structure. Viewed together, the narrow back, deep seat and rectangular arms give the chair a sleek profile without sacrificing aesthetics.

    The clear geometry and structure make this armchair an interesting example of the more restrained side of European seating from the 1930s. The same way Art Deco found its way into all corners of the globe through its era-defining aesthetic, this chair can instill a piece of Art Deco glamour into any interior space.
