Description
A beautiful 1940s dining table model 91 by Alvar Aalto, accompanied by its separate rotating serving tray, commonly known as a “Lazy Susan.” The circular table features Aalto’s characteristic bent birch L-legs, a birch edge and a warm veneered tabletop, possibly oak. The darker surface contrasts beautifully with the lighter birch structure, highlighting the simple proportions and natural character of the wood.
The rotating tray adds a charming and practical detail, allowing dishes to be shared easily around the table. It features a birch rim and a glass-covered surface. The accompanying historical catalogue illustration documents model 91 with a separate rotating serving tray, listed individually as model B91.
An inviting table for everyday dining, its round shape brings people together while the clean design fits comfortably into both traditional and contemporary interiors. The serving tray can be removed when a clear tabletop is preferred.
The table is in good vintage condition and has received light surface refinishing, retaining its aged character. Signs of wear remain consistent with its age and use.
Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a Finnish architect and designer whose furniture helped shape modern Scandinavian design. His experiments with bent wood brought warmth and practicality to modern furniture, with his distinctive L-leg becoming a central element in many of his stools, chairs and tables. Aalto was also one of the four founders of Artek, established in 1935 to promote modern design and distribute the furniture, lighting and textiles designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto.
Table: Diameter 126 cm, height 72 cm.
Rotating tray: Diameter 61 cm, height 5 cm. -
