Description
A distinctive free-form art glass vase by Hungarian glass artist Gyula Budveszel, dating from the 1990s.
The vase is executed in rich translucent emerald-green glass and characterized by its tall, elongated and freely shaped silhouette. Rather than following a regular circular form, the body has a subtly asymmetrical, hand-shaped profile that changes noticeably according to the viewing angle. The upper section opens dramatically into a broad, irregularly flared rim with a substantial rounded edge.
Small multicolored glass inclusions in white, yellow, blue, red and other tones are embedded throughout the green glass. The colored elements are concentrated primarily toward the lower section and along one side of the vessel, gradually becoming more dispersed as they rise through the body. Rather than forming a regular pattern, the decoration follows the spontaneous character of the free-form glass.
The substantial translucent glass reveals considerable depth when illuminated by natural light. Internal bubbles, subtle optical variations, multicolored inclusions and irregularities resulting from the handmade process contribute to the individuality of the piece.
Gyula Budveszel is a Hungarian glass artist whose work is characterized by expressive color, individually shaped forms and an emphasis on the optical qualities of hand-worked glass. His works from the 1990s represent a distinctive expression of Hungarian studio glass from the period.
With its strong emerald color and unusual free-form silhouette, the vase works equally well as a functional vessel or as a standalone sculptural decorative object. - More Information
