French Cerused Oak and Glass Table, C. 1940.

$ 2,450
  • Description
    The architectural barrel form is composed of two heavy, semi-circular curved panels in solid oak, positioned to create an open, sculptural cylindrical base with vertical negative space gaps. The oak surfaces feature a masterfully executed cerused (limed) finish, highlighting the natural textured grain variations against the warm, honey-toned body. The upper frame holds an inset circular glass top plate that sits perfectly flush with the wood rim. Positioned low within the base is an integrated circular wooden shelf displaying an elegant pie-cut radial or sunburst veneer alignment. A beautiful example of the transition from late Art Deco styling into French Mid-Century Modernism.
