Description
A charming Finnish country style dining table from the 19th century, combining a practical drop-leaf construction with decorative turned legs and a beautifully aged wooden top. The rhythmic shaping of the legs introduces a restrained Baroque influence, while the straightforward construction gives the table its rustic character.
The warm tones and visible grain of the plank top contrast beautifully with the later white-painted base. Rounded edges, surface marks, and variations in the timber reflect generations of use, lending the table a welcoming, lived-in appearance. Stretchers connect the legs, while swinging gate supports carry the two folding leaves.
The versatile design allows the table to adapt easily to different rooms and occasions. With both leaves lowered, it offers a compact surface for everyday use. Opening one leaf creates a comfortable dining or work table, while raising both extends it to 206 cm for larger gatherings. Equally suited to a country kitchen, a summer house, or a contemporary interior where an antique piece brings warmth and texture.
The table remains structurally sound and in good overall antique condition. The base has a later painted finish, with wear and exposed wood visible in places. The top displays scratches, marks, small gaps between boards, and other age-related irregularities consistent with its considerable age and use. These details contribute to its distinctive character. Please refer to the photographs for further condition details. A beautiful piece.
