Roy Norman, a Cambridge University research physicist, turned his passion for innovation and craftsmanship toward the world of pianos. In 1975, he founded 1066 Pianos in Cambridge, England, beginning a decades-long journey to restore pianos to a condition surpassing their original quality. Over the next 30 years, 1066 Pianos became the UK’s foremost name in piano restoration, working with nearly every major brand and uncovering the essential DNA of what makes a truly exceptional instrument.
Building on this legacy, Edelweiss was launched in 2008 to redefine piano manufacturing with a distinctly modern approach. Marrying Roy Norman’s scientific precision with artisan tradition, Edelweiss creates bespoke, design-led pianos that are as visually striking as they are musically exquisite. From one-of-a-kind collaborations with artists like BasedUpon to the launch of the iconic “Original” configurable collection, Edelweiss pianos are now found in homes, showrooms, and galleries around the world — including their flagship space in Harrods, London.
Today, 1066 Pianos and Edelweiss continue to push the boundaries of what a piano can be, blending timeless craftsmanship with contemporary vision to craft instruments that are both heirloom-quality and future-forward.
