Mikel Welch is an interior designer known for his signature blend of primitive modern aesthetics. With over 20 years in design, Mikel's career began as a set decorator, where his love for statement and period furniture pieces first flourished. Now based between New York City and Los Angeles, Mikel is a prominent designer and an Emmy Award-winning TV host. He can be seen on The Drew Barrymore Show, where he serves as the in-house interior designer.
Mikel’s design approach is rooted in the idea that every home should tell a story. His interiors are an artful mix of the past and present, breathing new life into vintage pieces while incorporating modern designs from creative artisans. He seeks out items that spark curiosity—pieces that make you question their origin and history, and ultimately, the story of the person who once owned them. Alongside these distinctive treasures, Mikel integrates a carefully selected array of contemporary creations that will soon become the antiques of tomorrow.
For Mikel, great design is about balance: a thoughtful curation of objects that not only reflect individual taste but also invite deeper reflection on the passage of time and the art of living well.
