Greenapple is always innovating and launching new products. What inspires your designs?
Our collection brings together a set of elegant and contemporary pieces inspired by nature’s organic shapes and raw beauty. The inspiration for our designs is found in everything that surrounds us in nature — nature really fuels our creativity, allowing us to continue to innovate and launch new products continuously.
We are also currently focused on developing and integrating new technologies in our products and pursuing ways of minimizing environmental impact while continuing to offer designs of uncompromising quality that deliver unique sensory experiences.

| Left: Greenapple’s new Conchula Armchair is dressed in Dedar’s Vladimiro tender rose mohair fabric for a decidedly feminine character. Soft curves and ultra-plush construction offer cosseting comfort. Right: Inspired by the shoreline of the beautiful Bordeira Beach in Portugal’s Algarve district, the organic, flowing form of the Bordeira Coffee Table is shown in a combination of Egyptian onyx and white oyster lacquer. | ||
In terms of our latest products, we’ve introduced new accent chairs among which we are really proud of the T50, Conchula, and Grass accent chairs, Additionally, we have launched pieces crafted from solid marble, such as the Silhueta console.
We have also unveiled new versions of some of our existing pieces. For example, the Biloba sideboard in Azul Macauba and Armona desk in new finishes. The Bordeira coffee table is also available in new versions, including a version with Egyptian Onyx.
What is important for the interior designers you work with? What has close to 20 years of experience taught you?
For the interior designers we work with, trust and commitment are crucial. The fact that Greenapple customizes most of its products allows designers to have designs that align with the space and the materials used in their projects. We also provide a valuable service for designers — we offer drawings of customized products for the designer and their client as well as material samples within 48 hours. Nearly 20 years of experience and in-house production allow us to meet production lead times on custom orders of 4 to 5 weeks, along with a front-door shipping service that takes 7 to 10 days worldwide. We think this is an asset for our clients.

How do you achieve this level of quality paired with customer satisfaction?
At Greenapple we take things personally. Our people are involved at the beginning, middle, and end of the furniture-making process and interiors we design — this is a personal, customized service in which people in our business oversee everything. In each project we commit to we are all hands on deck and face-to-face, as we insist upon designing, crafting, producing, packing, and personally delivering our goods.
Are your products customizable and what does it take to achieve this?
Yes, all our products are customizable. Having our own in-house production makes a world of difference — customer requests are quickly brainstormed and an innovative solution is found. This encourages us to be obsessed with details, carefully checking and rechecking every design and creation and more broadly to dedicate ourselves to the most demanding tailor-made, customized work. In this way we maintain quality.

I especially admire the Biloba sideboard series. Tell me how that design came about and how you fabricate it.
Our Creative Director, Rute Martins, designed the Biloba Sideboard. The inspiration for this design came from a broader attempt to reinterpret structures and shapes in monumental Portuguese architecture — specifically, the Alcobaça Monastery. This building intersects with different historical architectural styles — Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerism, and Baroque. We wanted to reflect all of those layers and influences in this piece—the creativity of our ancestors redefined through design.
The sideboard is made of eucalyptus. The doors are covered in a combination of different kinds of marble and are adorned with brass details. The top and sides are covered in solid marble. You can see in the design that three types of architectural arches intermingle into a pattern that transcends the straight lines of the traditional sideboard. Ginkgo Biloba leaves, as a decorative element, reference nature and again the organic shapes that are the inspiration for every design that we create.
Where do you source your materials?
Greenapple is committed to sustainable design. The selection of the finest materials is done consciously, with a focus not only on quality and longevity, but sustainability. All Greenapple products are created according to a Zero Waste methodology.
Portugal is one of the leading copper and zinc producers in Europe, which has led historically to the development of great craftsmanship in brass and metal which we try to take advantage of. In Portugal, we have some of the world's best Calacatta marble quarries, so we use this material. In terms of textiles, many of our pieces are upholstered with fabrics made in Portugal (such as 100% cotton velvets, leathers, and nubucks) but we also work with fabrics and leathers made in Italy,
What do you see as new global trends in design?
There is a trend globally today towards interiors that reflect feelings of tranquility and harmony. Our creative director, Rute Martins, senses and understands what clients want, which is to create environments that bring calm and peace to their lives. She draws inspiration from nature to reflect and capture that quality for interior spaces. An example of this is our Bordeira coffee table, which is inspired by Bordeira Beach.
