1. This iconic, Marcel Breuer-designed home is a steal at less than $1 million.

The legendary and profoundly influential Modernist architect Marcel Breuer designed this residence for the Snower family in 1954. Located in Mission Hills, Kansas—a suburb of Kansas City—the home was meant to stand out from the typical ranch-style homes that populated the area. And that it does. Breuer’s unique, cantilevered design makes for a residence that seems to defy gravity, appearing almost weightless.

Breuer designed the home with the Snowers’ modern art collection in mind, so the interiors are spacious and flooded with natural light. The current residents, who acquired the abode directly from the Snower family, filled the home with period-appropriate decor, including mid-century furniture by Charles and Ray Eames, Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto, George Nelson, and Eero Saarinen. The owners also helmed a thorough and thoughtful restoration that included installing a new roof, walnut floors, clear heart ceilings and siding, and painting the exterior and interior of the home the original colors as specified by Breuer.

The three-bedroom home, which features 1,800 square feet of living space upstairs, and a 1,100-square-foot lower level, is one of only two Breuer-designed residences built west of the Mississippi River. The architectural  gem is listed for $925,000. Click here to view the full listing.

This Colonial style estate by the celebrated American architect Daniel Burnham has dropped $1.2 million since it first came on the market four years ago. Don’t be fooled though. With a whopping, $7.7 million price tag, this sprawling, 10,685-square-foot home is still the most expensive residence in Kenilworth, Illinois—an extremely exclusive village fifteen miles north of Chicago.

The estate includes an elegant reception hall, a library, an exercise room, a movie theater, a wine cellar, and a welcoming foyer complete with beautiful hardwood floors and an exquisite mural that wraps around the main staircase. Refined antiques look right at home in this stately residence, which features a Chippendale dining table and chairs in the formal dining room, as well as Federal furniture and Regency pieces throughout.
