Charles & Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames were a husband-and-wife design team who made significant contributions to modern architecture, furniture design, and graphic design.
 
Charles Eames (1907-1978) was an American designer and architect who studied at Washington University in St. Louis and worked for a number of architectural firms before founding his own practice. Ray Eames (1912-1988) was an American artist and designer who studied painting in New York before meeting Charles in the 1940s.
 
Together, the couple created a wide range of furniture designs, including the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, as well as innovative architecture and interior design projects. They were also pioneers in the use of molded plywood, fiberglass, and other new materials, which they used to create elegant, functional furniture that was both affordable and visually striking.
 
In addition to their work in furniture and architecture, the Eameses were also involved in graphic design, creating iconic posters, films, and exhibitions for clients such as IBM, the United States government, and the Museum of Modern Art.
 
Today, the Eameses are considered to be among the most important and influential designers of the 20th century. Their innovative work and commitment to creating beautiful, functional designs continue to inspire designers and architects around the world.
