Ara Thorose
Armenian
Ara Thorose is a New York-based Armenian-American designer and artist originally from Los Angeles. With an MFA in 3D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a background in Sociology from UC Irvine—where he focused on gender and sexuality—Thorose brings a deeply human perspective to contemporary design.
Blending furniture, sculpture, and emotional resonance, his work investigates the boundaries of form through minimal materials and cylindrical geometry. Crafted by hand using custom techniques, each piece challenges traditional ideas of function and form. Thorose was named to Sight Unseen’s American Design Hotlist in 2021 and received Interior Design Magazine’s Rising Star Award the same year. His acclaimed 7M Chair now resides in the permanent collection of the Cranbrook Art Museum.
