Brother Thomas Bezanson

Canadian, 1929 - 2007
Brother Thomas Bezanson (1929-2007) was an American ceramic artist who was known for his beautiful, minimalist pottery. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and joined the Order of Saint Benedict in 1951.

Bezanson's pottery was characterized by its simplicity and elegance, with clean lines and spare forms that emphasized the beauty of the natural materials he used. He was particularly known for his use of white porcelain, which he often combined with glazes made from natural ash and wood-fired kilns to create subtle variations in color and texture.

Bezanson's pottery has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and is held in many public and private collections. He was the recipient of numerous awards and honors during his lifetime, including the Rhode Island Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts, and he was designated a Living Treasure by the state of Rhode Island in 1993. Bezanson was known for his dedication to his craft and his commitment to living a simple, monastic life that allowed him to focus fully on his work as an artist.
