Edith Barretto Stevens Parsons

Edith Parsons was born Houston, Virgina on July 4, 1876. She studied at the Art Students League from 1901-1902 with Twachman, French and Barnard, where she won scholarships and prizes for her sculptures. She was a member of the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors; National Society of Sculptors; and the National Association of Women Artists. She executed figures for the Liberal Arts Building at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904 and exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1908-1933 (13 annuals); the Architectural League, New York City; the National Sculpture Society; the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 1911-1934 annually; the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, 1915, San Francisco; the Art Institute of Chicago 1916-1924, annually; and at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Edith Parson's sculptures and fountains can be found at the Memphis Public Park, Tennessee; Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina; the Cleveland Museum, Ohio; the Brooks Memorial Art Garden, Memphis, Tennessee; the Library Arts Building, St. Louis, Missouri; the World War I Memorial in Summit, New Jersey and others. She died in 1956.
