Edward Holmes Baldock
British
Edward Holmes Baldock (1777–1845) was one of early 19th-century London’s most esteemed antique furniture and porcelain dealers. Opening his business in 1805 on Hanway Street, he quickly earned a reputation for supplying fine French-style furniture and Chinese export porcelain to elite clients, including members of the British royal family and prominent aristocrats. Recognized as one of the first true "antique dealers," Baldock also commissioned custom furniture, often collaborating with master marquetry craftsmen. His pieces are known for their exquisite use of specimen woods, ormolu mounts, and porcelain panels, reflecting a museum-quality standard. His refined taste and innovative approach to antique dealing left a lasting influence on the decorative arts market.
