Folke Jansson

Swedish, 1920 - 2016
Folke Jansson (1922-1984) was a Swedish furniture designer and architect. He studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, and worked as an architect before beginning his career as a furniture designer in the 1950s.

Jansson's furniture designs were characterized by clean lines, simple shapes, and the use of natural materials such as wood and leather. He was particularly known for his chairs, which often featured sculptural forms and innovative construction techniques.

One of Jansson's most famous designs is the "Gazelle" chair, which he created in 1958 for the Swedish furniture manufacturer Karl Mathsson. The chair's sleek, organic form was inspired by the movement of a gazelle, and it quickly became an icon of Swedish modern design.

Jansson also designed furniture for other manufacturers, including the Swedish company Lammhults, and his work was exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Europe. He was a key figure in the Scandinavian modern design movement, and his furniture designs continue to be highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts today.
