Frederick de Wit (1629-1706) was a Dutch cartographer and engraver, who is known for producing some of the most beautiful and highly detailed maps of the 17th century. He was born in Amsterdam and worked as a copper engraver and publisher of maps, atlases, and prints. De Wit's maps were highly sought after by collectors, and his work was known for its meticulous attention to detail and decorative elements such as ornate cartouches, illustrations, and embellishments. He produced maps of Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, as well as city plans and sea charts. De Wit's maps were widely distributed throughout Europe and influenced the development of cartography during the 17th century. Today, his maps are highly prized by collectors and are considered some of the finest examples of cartography from the Dutch Golden Age.
