HENRI RAPIN

French
Henri Rapin (1873-1939) was a French artist and designer who worked in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, and interior design. He was born in Nancy, France, and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

Rapin was known for his Art Deco style, which was characterized by its use of bold geometric shapes, bright colors, and luxurious materials. He designed furniture, lighting, textiles, and other decorative objects, often incorporating exotic materials such as lacquer, ivory, and exotic woods.

One of Rapin's most famous works is the interior of the Grand Salon of the SS Normandie ocean liner, which he designed in collaboration with other artists and designers in the 1930s. The salon featured Art Deco-style murals, furniture, and lighting fixtures, and was considered one of the most luxurious and innovative interiors of its time.

Rapin's work was exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and he was recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. Today, his designs are highly sought after by collectors and are featured in many museums and galleries that specialize in Art Deco and decorative arts.
