Jacob Petit (1796–1868), originally Jacob Mardochée, was a master French porcelain painter and manufacturer renowned for revitalizing ornamental Rococo-style porcelain in the 19th century. A former painter at the famed Sèvres factory, Petit later founded his own workshops in Fontainebleau and Paris, producing lavish vases, clocks, figurines, parfum bottles, and more—typically marked with the initials “J.P.” His signature style combined intricate, asymmetrical rocaille shapes with pastel hues, rich polychrome decoration, and sumptuous gilding, capturing the exuberant spirit of the Belle Époque. Celebrated at the 1834 Paris Exhibition, Petit’s imaginative pieces remain highly prized by collectors and are featured in prestigious collections worldwide.
