Knud Faerch
Danish
Knud Faerch (1920-1968) was a Danish furniture designer who is best known for his functionalist and minimalist furniture designs. Faerch studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and later worked as a designer for several leading Danish furniture companies, including Fritz Hansen and Erik Jørgensen.
Faerch's designs are characterized by their simple and understated aesthetic, with a focus on clean lines, high-quality materials, and functional design. His furniture designs often feature modular elements that can be combined in various ways to create flexible and adaptable seating solutions.
One of Faerch's most famous designs is the "Pinwheel" armchair, which he designed for Fritz Hansen in 1955. The chair features a distinctive triangular seat and backrest that are supported by a metal frame, and it is available in a range of colors and finishes. The "Pinwheel" armchair has become a classic example of Danish modern design, and it is still produced by Fritz Hansen today.
Despite his relatively short career, Faerch's furniture designs have had a lasting impact on the Danish design scene and have influenced many subsequent designers. His works are highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts around the world.
