Louise Nevelson

Louise Nevelson was an American artist known for her abstract expressionist sculptures. She was born in 1899 in Kiev, Ukraine, and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1905. Nevelson studied at several art schools throughout her career, including the Art Students League of New York and the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts.
 
Nevelson's sculptures were often made from found objects, such as pieces of wood or metal, which she would then paint in a monochromatic color. Her works were known for their dramatic, monumental scale and their use of intricate patterns and shapes. Nevelson's sculptures were influenced by a variety of artistic movements, including cubism and surrealism, and she is often considered a pioneer of installation art.
 
Nevelson's work gained widespread recognition in the 1950s and 1960s, and she became one of the most prominent American sculptors of the time. Her works can be found in collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.
