Manuela Karin Knaut
German, 1970
Manuela Karin Knaut (b. 1970, Germany) is an abstract-leaning contemporary artist recognized for her bold, layered paintings and immersive installations. With a Master’s in Fine Art from Witswatersrand University in Johannesburg, she balances international studios in Germany and South Africa.
Her work embraces the raw texture of life—urban graffiti, worn surfaces, and fragments of daily experiences—by layering paint, ink, spray, fabric, photos, and found objects. Through scraping, sewing, and collaging, Knaut transforms chaotic materials into textured narratives that reflect curiosity, movement, and the stories of everyday people.
Since the 1990s, she has exhibited globally—from Accra and Johannesburg to Berlin and London—and is represented online and through IdeelArt and partner galleries. Her art resides in public and private collections worldwide, offering a visceral exploration of life’s edge between order and spontaneity.
