Paavo Tynell
Finnish, 1890 - 1973
The Finnish industrial design master Paavo Tynell's specialty was in lighting and lamp design. He co-founded the design company Oy Taito Ab in 1918 and was the head designer. His company became a leading player in the Finnish lighting market, the European market, and beyond. Tynell went on to freelance for American companies – one in particular was Lightolier Inc., where he developed his own interpretation of post-war American style. Though Tynell mostly worked in the U.S., he resided in Finland for the rest of his life. Paavo Tynell lamps & lighting remain popular worldwide.
