Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon (1923-2004) was an American fashion and portrait photographer. He was known for his innovative, modern, and often provocative photographs, which challenged the conventions of the time. He was a major contributor to the publications of Harper's Bazaar and Vogue, and was the first staff photographer for the latter. He was also a respected fine art photographer who had numerous exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the world. Avedon won numerous awards for his work, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Magazine Photographers.
