Rubén Fuentes

Cuban, 1980
Born in 1980 in Cuba, Rubén FUENTES now resides and works in Paris, following an extended period in Spain. His academic journey took him from the Fine Arts Institute of Havana to ultimately earn a Master's degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Valencia.

Rubén FUENTES possesses a distinctive and powerful artistic style, widely acclaimed both in France and on the international stage. His works have found a place in various public collections, including the Museum of Hunting and Nature (le Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature) in Paris, the Confucius Institute, and public institutions in the United States, Cuba, Switzerland, and Spain.

Since 2004, he has been an active participant in numerous collective and solo exhibitions across France, Spain, Switzerland, Cuba, the UK, China, and the United States. His collaboration with Galerie DUMONTEIL has been ongoing since 2016.

Rubén's art conjures a unique bestiary that exists solely within the fantastical world he has created, manifesting in familiar forms yet adorned with another layer of lush and vigorous flesh, forever exuding a sense of tranquility. Even though his animals might take on an ethereal quality, the trees in his works seem to convey a profound message, encouraging us to "learn from my silence, everything lasts and everything is ephemeral."

Confronted with the tremendous strength and beauty of Rubén's art, indifference is simply not an option. In his exhibitions, the animal subjects transcend into events that hold significance in the eyes of humanity. He articulates, "My works have an extending tree, a forest that populates and covers everything... the wild world triumphs over the civilized world... A world in which nature has resumed her role of heroine, and as in the Chinese and Japanese landscapes of 'shanshui,' the human figure is like a small insect, barely perceptible..."
