Ruth Avra & Dana Kleinman KX2

American, 1972
KX2 is the artistic collaboration of sisters Ruth Avra and Dana Kleinman, whose innovative practice merges metalwork and painting to explore critical environmental issues. Their work is deeply rooted in data-driven research, focusing on themes such as climate change and water infrastructure to highlight urgent ecological concerns.

Blending repurposed and salvaged industrial metals with traditional painting on canvas, KX2 creates striking, textured compositions that initially captivate through bold colors and forms. Upon closer examination, these pieces reveal complex visual narratives addressing environmental sustainability, urban infrastructure, and the impact of overdevelopment.

Since launching their collaboration in 2007, KX2 has exhibited internationally, including representing the United States at the 2008 Beijing Biennale at the National Art Museum of China. Their work is included in numerous private, corporate, and public collections across North America.

Committed to environmental responsibility, KX2 prioritizes sustainable materials, using up to 50% recycled metals and canvases in their creations. Both Avra and Kleinman currently live with their families in Southern Florida, continuing to create impactful art that fosters awareness of the delicate balance between nature and industry.
