Thomas Doughty

American, 1793 - 1856
Originally a student of Thomas Sully in Philadelphia, Thomas Doughty was one of the first, and most important, American landscape painters. He gained renown for his quiet, pastoral landscapes of the Hudson River Valley, Pennsylvania, and New England. He was a regular exhibitor and member of the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His works are held in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.Biography courtesy of Questroyal Fine Art LLC, www.antiquesandfineart.com/questroyal
