Thomas Easley
American, 1949
Thomas Easley (born 1949 in Oroville, California) is a vibrant figurative painter celebrated for his dynamic, palette-knife works that balance bold color, texture, and energy. Raised in the quiet mountain town of Lake Tahoe, Easley first explored life as a professional skier, guitarist, and poet before his artistic calling took hold through illuminated manuscript-inspired painting.
Self-taught and internationally seasoned, he lived and painted across Europe and Asia—refining classical realist techniques in English miniatures, Venetian glazed oils, and allegorical works inspired by Indian philosophy. Since returning to the U.S. in the 2000s, Easley has focused on large-scale, expressive works—nudes, cityscapes, still lifes, roosters, and golfers—layered with sculptural pigment on board.
With over 100 solo exhibitions and representation by Trimper Gallery in Greenwich, Easley’s art circulates through museum shows (Victoria & Albert Museum), publications, and esteemed private collections, including Diana, Princess of Wales. He’s also authored influential instructional books like Figure in Motion and continues to teach, write, and innovate from his studio in New York’s Hudson Valley.
