Treitel‑Gratz Co.
American
Treitel-Gratz Co., founded in 1929 in New York City by engineer Frank Gratz and salesman Edward Treitel, became one of the most respected metal fabrication firms of the 20th century. Known for their impeccable craftsmanship, the company collaborated with leading designers such as Donald Deskey and Mies van der Rohe, producing custom furniture and architectural elements that defined the Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern eras. They fabricated the first American-made Barcelona chairs for Knoll, created interior metals for Radio City Music Hall, and later became known for their sleek chrome bar carts and sculptural brass and Lucite furniture. Their legacy also includes the development of classical Pilates apparatus, a line still produced today under the Gratz Industries name.
