Valdir Cruz

Valdir Cruz, a Brazilian-American photographer born in 1952, has been capturing the essence of Brazil's people, architecture, and landscapes since moving to the United States in 1984. With studios in New York City and São Paulo, Cruz's photography reflects a deep connection to his homeland. In 1996, he received a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship for his project "Faces of the Rainforest," which documents the lives of indigenous people in the Brazilian Rainforest. This project was further supported by the Guggenheim Foundation with a publication subvention award in 2000. Cruz's work is held in esteemed collections including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the New York Public Library, and the Brooklyn Museum.
