Zeinab Al Hashemi

Emirian
Zeinab Al Hashemi, an Emirati conceptual artist based in Dubai, is renowned for her large-scale contemporary sight-specific installations. Graduating from Zayed University with a BA in Arts and Science, specializing in Multimedia Design, Al Hashemi is known for capturing the transformation of the UAE's landscape following the country’s construction and industrial booms. Her work examines the contrast and interdependence between the abstract, geometric shapes of urbanism and the organic forms of the country’s natural landscape. Al Hashemi's installations deconstruct the viewer's understanding of their surroundings, offering an alternative point of view and creating a new perception of reality.

Inspired by the natural topography of the UAE, Al Hashemi experiments with materials to blur the boundary between the natural and artificial. Her work, reminiscent of traditional landscapes, incorporates industrial materials like mesh metal, highlighting human interference in the natural environment. Al Hashemi's art represents a delicate balance between modernism and tradition, showcasing a harmonious coexistence. She has participated in various art fairs and festivals, including the Sikka Art Fair and Dubai Design Week, and her work has been featured in exhibitions worldwide, including Sharjah Biennial 11. Al Hashemi was commissioned by the Institute de France and DCT Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi for the inauguration of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Currently, she is an Artist in Residence at SETI-Institute in San Francisco, engaging in research between art and science, with upcoming commissions at EXPO2021 Dubai at the Sustainable Pavilion.
